AMD has refreshed their entire Ryzen 7 lineup with the 7nm Ryzen 9 3900X, which relies on the Zen 2 architecture to bring the same 16-core/32-thread design as the Ryzen 9 3800X, but with the added feature of the new CCX2 cache controller, which should unlock improved performance by reducing cache misses. Of course, you can’t have everything at the same time, so the two latest Ryzen processors are also lined up against the Intel Core i9-9980XE 8-core processor, which is based on the Coffee Lake-S architecture, with its high core count of up to 12 cores.

The Ryzen 7 3800X and Ryzen 9 3900X are two of the newest processors from AMD. In the previous article I compared the AMD Ryzen 7 1800X and Ryzen 7 2700X against the Intel Core i7-8700K. The Ryzen 7 3800X and Ryzen 9 3900X have been designed to match the core performance of the Ryzen 7 2700X and Ryzen 7 1800X. In this article I will be looking at the two processors with a focus on core performance.

The CPU is one of the most essential components of a gaming PC. Games, on the other hand, are more GPU demanding, but the CPU remains a critical component of total system performance. Specifically, if the CPU is slower than the GPU, the GPU may bottleneck, preventing you from achieving the performance that the hardware components are capable of.

Choosing the correct CPU may be challenging since you must ensure that the processor you choose does not cause your hardware components to choke. In addition, the processor you choose should meet your requirements.

Many individuals are considering building a gaming PC but are undecided on whether to go with AMD 3800X Ryzen 7 processor processor or AMD 3900X Ryzen 9 processor processor. So, in this comparison, we’ll look at why you should construct a PC with a Ryzen 7 3800X versus Ryzen 9 3900X CPU if you’re primarily interested in gaming.

AMD has proven themselves to fans with the introduction of their Ryzen 3000 line of CPUs. With a well-rounded range of new CPUs with greater core counts and raw computing capability than we’ve ever seen before. Now, AMD is posing a serious challenge to Intel’s dominance in the enthusiast market, something we haven’t seen in a long time.

AMD has increased the TDP of the AMD Ryzen 7 3800X CPU to 105W. With eight cores and 16 threads, the Ryzen 7 3800X is the high-performance equivalent of the 65W Ryzen 7 3700X. The Ryzen 7 3800X also supports 3200MHz DDR4 memory, and because Ryzen CPUs perform better with faster memory, it should provide great performance.

AMD’s Ryzen 7 3800X processor is somewhat less powerful than the Ryzen 9 3900X processor. The Ryzen 7 3800X’s performance, on the other hand, is expected to be nothing short of spectacular. In certain apps and even games, the Ryzen 7 3800X may possibly outperform the Ryzen 9 3900X.

The AMD Ryzen 7 3800X is positioned between the Intel Core i9-9900K and the Intel Core i7-9700K in terms of pricing. The Core i7-9700K is the Ryzen 7 3800X’s natural rival, and when the two CPUs are compared, the Ryzen 7 3800X with its eight cores and sixteen threads outperforms Intel’s Core i7-9700K with its eight cores and eight threads. As a result, the AMD Ryzen 7 3800X is a fantastic CPU to choose.

Pros

  • It has a good mix of single-threaded and multi-threaded performance.
  • Outstanding performance
  • PCIe 4.0 is supported..
  • It includes a CPU cooler.

Cons

  • PCIe 4.0 needs an expensive X570 motherboard.
  • Overclocking options are limited, both manually and automatically.

The introduction of the Ryzen 3000 family of CPUs represented a milestone that would have been unimaginable just a few years ago. By releasing new 7nm CPUs with smaller and more tightly packed transistors than Intel’s rival 14nm processors, AMD has managed to get the upper hand against Intel. Better power efficiency, faster speed, more cores, and more cache memory packed into a smaller space than the first-gen Ryzen models are all benefits of increased transistor density.

In terms of core count, AMD has made no mistakes. The Ryzen 9 3900X has a total of twelve cores and twenty-four threads, which makes it stand out among standard desktop CPUs. We’ll have to go to Intel’s high-end desktop platform to get a fair comparison based on core counts. The Intel Core i9-9920X CPU, for example, has twelve cores and twenty-four threads, but it costs more than twice as much as the AMD Ryzen 9 3900X processor.

The AMD Ryzen 9 3900X processor competes with the Intel Core i9-9900K in mainstream desktop CPUs. The Core i9-9900K, on the other hand, has four less cores and eight fewer threads than the Ryzen 9 3900X. As a result, the AMD Ryzen 9 3900X CPU is a great processor option.

Pros

  • It delivers outstanding results.
  • It supports PCIe 4.0
  • It includes a CPU cooler.
  • It may be used with X470 motherboards.

Cons

  • PCIe 4.0 support necessitates the purchase of a costly X570 motherboard.
  • Overclocking headroom is limited.
