After the release of the Skyrim Special Edition, the role of the mage has risen once more in popularity, and with good reason. Not only does a mage enjoy the perks of powerful magic, but they can also be a very capable melee fighter, and employ a wide range of defensive and offensive spells. But, what are the secrets to becoming a successful mage? Is it the massive amount of spellbooks you have? The staggeringly large amount of spells you can cast? Perhaps it’s the fact you have to memorize all your spells? Well, luckily, we can answer all these and more in this guide.
This is a guide written for mages, aiming to provide the most useful information in a concise way, for those who are new to the game. The guide is mainly a set of builds, with the goal of providing the best, yet versatile, setup for each character. You can use the guide as a base for your own playstyle and set of goals.

Fire spells do a lot of damage, but the bolts’ travel time is slow enough that they may miss the target if you battle at range. Aoe on numerous targets is a breeze with Fireball. Frost is similarly effective against numerous targets, although it moves more slowly. - Apply the enchant ‘fortify destruction’ to all three of them and equip them.
As your enchanting improves, you’ll want to duplicate these things more often since they’ll provide bigger rewards each time. You’ll be able to sling Adept spells like freebies and enough Expert spells to kill a dragon while in the air before it ever has a chance to strike you after you have all three of these items at 20 percent Plus reductions in destruction spellcasting. Get Azura’s star or the black soul gem, then enchant a bow with a life-stealing enchant to get all the magnificent souls you need. You can create mountains of very costly enchanted jewelry by combining this infinite soul stream with the jewelry you can produce when smithing, the gold/silver ore you mine or purchase, and the rare gems you discover while adventuring (a good way to get rid of the less-than-Grand souls.) The majority of the mage merchants at the mage college will purchase this enchanted jewelry, leaving you with, what, seven? vendors all within walking distance of each other, each with around a thousand gold to harvest. This is a great method to earn a lot of money that you can put towards training. You may be concerned about leveling up too quickly with all much training money, but you won’t. Even with training, the speed drops significantly after you reach 25ish. The development of your top talents, not the lesser ones, is what gives you the biggest increases in experience. All of the trainers I’ve discovered won’t be able to get you beyond 75, and from 50 to 75, they’ll charge 1500-3000 gold each point. I believe that between the ages of 25 and 50, you get the greatest bang for your money in terms of training. Fortify Thieves are particularly vulnerable to archery enchantments. By enchanting a set of jewelry for your bow, you may quickly increase its damage by 100 percent or more, turning your already-enchanted bow into a one-shot soul harvesting killing machine. For this reason, if you choose to play as a thief rather than a mage, maxing out archery is just as beneficial as maxing out destruction. To be honest, this is the kind of situation that need rebalancing. The cost reductions and different enchantments should all come to an end at some time, maybe 10% + 1% each level. That would give you a maximum of 90% at level 80, which is where you should finish up after maxing out all talents, in my opinion.
