When you sit down at a casino table, you don’t just need to worry about other players and the rules of the game. You also need to be able to control your emotions and have a high level of discipline. That includes managing your bankroll.

Gambling can be an emotional thrill. The more in control of these emotions you are, the more you can enjoy yourself. If you want to give yourself the best chance of success, you need to have a system.

You can see this system as building a control deck. When you implement this strategy on platforms such as betFIRST, you’ll feel like a master, bending the game to your will. Here’s how you can build your own casino control deck.

Start With a Defined Bankroll

If you want to treat your online casino play with a control deck mindset, you need to apply many of the same principles when managing risk. Your bankroll isn’t just the money you have in your account; it’s the money you set aside for the sole purpose of casino play.

This money will be separate from your finances and have no impact on the funds you need for your bills and daily life. This bankroll needs to be defined, which can then create a boundary that protects you from emotional decision-making.

Exactly how you divide this bankroll is up to you. Some players may wish to transfer over a specific amount each month and have that to play with. Others may wish to do it weekly instead to stop the temptation of bleeding your funds dry too early.

If you want, you can then divide this further. For example, you may allocate a specific amount to play with in each of your sessions. The important thing is that once this money’s gone, it’s gone. You can only place money back in your account once the next period, as defined by your rules, comes along.

Setting Rules to Play with your Bankroll

How to play with your bankroll goes a few steps further, as you’ll also benefit from having rules around the stakes that you play with. In table games, this can be difficult as the amount you stake can vary from one hand to the next. Still, it’s good to only ever risk a small percentage at a time.

If you never play a game with more than 5% of your bankroll, this will allow you to play for longer. If those losses come, you won’t have your money wiped out. Having these rules can improve your discipline greatly, just like building up an imperious control deck on a game such as Hearthstone.

With this mindset, you can view your bankroll as the price you pay for the entertainment. If you win money, that’s a bonus that you haven’t accounted for. If you lose money, then you’ve still had fun while not having any regrets or worries about your finances.

Understand Variance Before You Blame Yourself

There are other key understandings you can have that can help with emotional control. One is appreciating the natural variance of these games. Some people can assume every loss is some type of personal failure, which is never going to be helpful. You can make the right choices and still lose.

If something has a 90% chance of happening, it’s a wise move to bet on it. In the 1 out of 10 instances that it doesn’t happen, you need to hold your head high and acknowledge that you played the percentages and it was just some bad luck.

Without understanding this variance, it can feel as though you’re constantly doing something wrong. This can lead you to make adjustments that aren’t necessary and start to abandon sound strategy, as it wasn’t working. In gambling, there will always be times when short-term results don’t go your way, regardless of how well you are playing.

Downswings will happen and this is where your bankroll comes in. If you are only playing with a small percentage of your money, you not only protect yourself financially but also emotionally. When you play with a clear head, you’re always more likely to make better decisions.

Staying In Control of Your Actions

Whether gaming or playing at a casino, you want to have laser focus on what you can control. When you cut out the outside noise, you can lock in. When you have this mindset, you can pounce on any opportunities for glory.

This control not only comes from understanding variance but also from how your emotions can dictate your actions. If you’ve had a run of losses, sometimes it’s best to step away for a moment. With a fresh mindset, you can then go back to the game ready for success.

If you’re the type of gamer who loves having a great control deck, you’ll already have an appreciation for the advantages of good discipline. Having these self-imposed restraints isn’t something that limits you. Instead, it’s a key skill to make you more successful.

Knowing When to Take Risks

Risk management isn’t about being risk-free. In strategy games and casino tables, you know that’s not possible. With experience comes knowing when to increase risk and when to reduce it. This is all about playing the percentages.

If the odds are stacked in your favor, you need to make your move. There is still a chance the move could lead to failure but it’s a risk worth taking. In poker, an example may be having a three-of-a-kind. You know it’s an extremely strong hand but not the strongest. You’d need to bet aggressively, knowing there’s still a chance it turns into a loss.

When the odds tilt in favor, you want there to be more at stake, as the upsides are much greater. Short-term swings are always going to happen. Yet, knowing when to take risks at the right moment will always lead to long-term success. Whether sitting at a card table or creating a control deck, your success will ultimately be determined by how you manage risk.
