Gaming is great if you have a pocket full of money, but let’s be real – rare are the players who can afford to play just about any video game out there. We all have to set limits to our budgets to play with what we have at a given moment. That’s why budget-friendly video games are so important.
From our perspective, online casino gaming stands out in this field. Yes, it is common to spend a lot gambling, but there is also the option of playing demo games for free or seizing the casino 1$ deposit. Some of the best online casinos in Canada give us this opportunity, and we think it’s great to have the chance to play with as little as a single dollar. But when it comes to affordable video games, we have some suggestions for these as well.
Free-to-Play Options
Free-to-play (F2P) games won’t burn a hole in your pocket. This is a common solution among younger players, and we have three amazing F2P suggestions:
1. Fortnite: Battle Royale
Genre: Battle Royale
Benefits: Incredible graphics, unique building mechanics
Epic Games developed Fortnite with a clear intention to take the gaming world by storm. You probably know how it works – the Battle Royale mode drops 100 players onto an ever-shrinking island. This, of course, results in an intense fight for survival.
2. League of Legends
Genre: Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA)
Benefits: Strategic depth, frequent updates
League of Legends (LoL) is a true pioneer of the MOBA genre, but that doesn’t make it outdated. On the contrary, this Riot Base’s title continues to be a juggernaut in the free-to-play niche.
3. Path of Exile
Genre: Action RPG
Benefits: Regular expansions
Do you like darker shades of action RPGs? If yes, Path of Exile (PoE) should be your primary option in the F2P portfolio. We particularly like its skill system with a highly expansive skill tree and deep customization options.
Discounted Options
F2P titles are great, but there aren’t too many of them for seasoned users with well-defined interests. We did some heavy lifting to discover games and themes that are currently on discount, which makes them much more affordable:
· Cyberpunk 2077 – Phantom Liberty: Some websites charge as little as $19.99 for this one
· The Whisperer: This game is too cheap to be real (less than $4)
· Robin Hood – The Legend of Sherwood: It’s available for a single dollar
· Mad Max: You can purchase it for $4.99
· Diablo + Hellfire: Some platforms put a price tag of just $9.99
· Cross Code: We bought it for $5.99
· Fallout 3: The price dropped to sub $20
Retro Games Overview
We know there are lots of gaming traditionalists who prefer retro titles. It turns out some of them are both free and top-quality:
1. Doom (1993) – Freedoom
Genre: First-Person Shooter
Benefits: Retro with refreshed content
Doom was released in 1993 as a seminal first-person shooter. This game laid the groundwork for the entire genre, but now it comes with some new tricks that make it even more amusing.
2. OpenRA (Open Source Red Alert)
Genre: Real-Time Strategy
Benefits: Strategic warfare at its finest
OpenRA is an open-source project that recreates classic real-time strategy games from the late 90s. One of them is Command & Conquer: Red Alert. Though enhanced, this free retro gem faithfully captures the essence of the original game.
3. Cave Story
Genre: Action-Adventure Platformer
Benefits: 2D setup
Cave Story is a charming little indie game. Should you wish to pay homage to the classic 2D platformers of the past, we definitely recommend Cave Story.
You Can Play on a Shoestring Budget
It’s great to have a big gaming budget, but most of us don’t. This, however, doesn’t make the gaming world any less entertaining, especially if you know where to search for the right F2P titles.
We gave you some suggestions, but feel free to add to our list in the comments section.
