Thanks to the Overwatch 2 Beta, we can already ascertain which heroes are at the top of the food chain and which ones are not, even before the official release on the 4th of October, 2022. These conclusions are only valid to a certain degree and may change drastically after the release, but it’s still nice to know where certain heroes rank in tier lists and why they are there. If you’re coming from Overwatch, there’s no question that you have your own favorites and would like to know how they will fare in this highly anticipated sequel.
A small disclaimer, though: Don’t take these rankings too seriously and ruin the game for yourself. Each and every one of OW2’s heroes is unique, playable, and fun. This list is merely a general rundown of which characters are placed pretty low meta-wise in the Beta. Also, remember that all of them may be subjected to changes as the development continues, so don’t hang your head low if your faves made the list!
Without further ado, here are our Top 5 Picks for the currently Worst Heroes in OW2 (in no particular order);
Bastion
Good ol’ Bastion used to be a solid DPS who could dish out considerable damage at the price of his mobility. Unfortunately, mobility is a BIG thing in OW2, as it is more fast-paced and adds more value to mobile DPS heroes. As such, even the more competent Bastion player would struggle to get much value out of him. Low mobility means his teammates must compensate for it via other Heroes who are able to buff him up with their abilities. Why go through this trouble when you can pick a different DPS?
Another issue is that he has an absurdly big hitbox for a DPS hero, making him an easy target for more agile heroes. What’s worse, his passive ability “Ironclad” has been completely removed in OW2, right alongside his Self-Repair and Ultimate abilities. More vulnerable than ever, it’s not going to be easy to play Bastion now. Unless you’re a diehard Bastion fan, we recommend you try a different DPS until some much-needed changes are made.
Brigitte
Back when Brigitte was first introduced, she was a much-needed character that gave players the option to straight-up counter the Dive meta prevalent at the time, thanks to her proficient Shield Bash stun. But Brigitte has transitioned into Brawler support in OW2 and her healing, in comparison to other healers, is quite minimal and underwhelming. The changes necessary to make her solid support well adapted to this sequel have yet to be made.
While her core style fits the new pace of the OW2, it just boils down to how the other healer heroes are miles better at the moment. If you’re a Brigitte man who has long since mastered her, you’ll be okay; but tread with caution because you don’t want to piss off your team with near negligible heals.

Roadhog
Roadhog actually got buffed in Overwatch 2, where his maximum HP went up by 100 and his healing ability got an upgrade as well. Unfortunately, the fact that there’s only one Tank per team now makes him more of a liability rather than an asset, a quite heavy one at that. Due to his high HP, low speed, and big hitbox, he becomes a very easy and farmable target for his foes, allowing them to charge up their ultimates faster.
The change in OW’s format is exactly what becomes Roadhog’s downfall. A vast majority of the characters have obtained speed buffs that enhance their mobility, making it even more difficult to land his Chain Hook ability than ever before. If you fail to find your mark with this ability, your team would be losing their only Tank and end up in very dire straits. His efficiency and applicability have declined significantly, making him an extremely niche pick.

Symmetra
Oh Symmetra, what did she do to be one of the few Heroes that received absolutely no changes whatsoever to her individual abilities while walking into the sequel game with some big changes in format? When compared to the other heroes that can rival her role, she severely falls behind in impact.
Overwatch 2’s maps are considerably bigger, making it even easier for foes to avoid Symmetra’s Sentry Turrets. It’s still true that she brings something unique to the OW2 experience, but the 5v5 gameplay makes her Teleport lose value. It just doesn’t give as much of a competitive edge as it did in the prequel. Her ability to hold down specific choke points is great, but the remainder of her kit has gone downhill. Regardless, Symmetra is still good on Defense; but there are just better options in the DPS pool…

Wrecking Ball
Sorry Wrecking Ball fans, but the hamster might be the furthest off from the Meta so far. Going by the OW2 Beta, he has lost almost all viability. There is only one Tank on the team now, and he/she must protect the team at all costs. As you may have already figured out, he can’t do that.
He used to be a useful pick when there was another Tank to handle the “tanking” for him, but that won’t cut it in OW2. While you are off doing hamster things, your team becomes sitting ducks for your enemies. Remember, he is an aggressive tank and the lack of team protection far outweighs any combat advantages he brings to the table. The slight buffs he received are negligible within the scope of the team. So yeah, this pick is very selfish and isn’t recommended until necessary changes are put in place.

That wraps up our top 5 picks for the worst Overwatch 2 heroes according to the Beta, at least Meta-wise. The main reason why so many of these heroes fall short is the change in gameplay structure to the 5v5 format. When they don’t receive the alterations necessary to adapt to this big change, they become redundant and/or disadvantageous to the team. The icing atop this cake is that there are other characters who are far better in their roles, providing so much more value. But hey, even anti-meta heroes like these become proficient tools in the hands of pro players from Overwatch 2 Boosting services as they grind through the ranks swiftly and efficiently. We hope you found this article helpful, as you prepare to step right into the world of Overwatch 2.
