A Bit of History

The County Championship was first organized in 1890, after which it became popular not only in England but also in America, Australia, South Africa, and New Zealand. The golden age of cricket is often referred to as the period from the last decade of the 19th century to the outbreak of the First World War.
The International Board, which was in charge of controlling cricket matches, was established in 1909. Now it consists of teams from one hundred and four countries, while originally, it consisted of only representatives from three countries.
Rules of Cricket
The first set of cricket rules was published in 1788, but it has been revised and clarified many times since.
The game of cricket involves moving around an oval field. There are a couple of small gates on the field. Two teams of eleven players each take part in the game. The aim of the game is to knock the crossbar off the goal. The ball is thrown with a bat shaped like a club.
If the ball is successfully batted, the players who defend the goal change places – in essence, some elements of cricket resemble American baseball. If, on offense, the crossbar – the wicket – is knocked down, the ball is caught, or the defending team breaks the rules, one player from that team leaves the field.
When 10 players of the team playing in defense have left the field, the teams change roles. The team with the most runs wins.
Playing Etiquette
Like golf, cricket has specific rules regarding the behavior of players on the court. These rules are taught to players from childhood, and non-compliance is considered a bad form.
It is considered unseemly to throw the ball not at the crossbar but at the defending athlete – because of this, the referee can stop the game. It is also not customary to stall too much during the game.
Compliance with the rules of the game is based on the honesty of the players – for example, if a participant is knocked out on the field and the referee does not notice it. The player will not remain on the field, as often happens in soccer matches.
