In Starcraft II: Legacy of the Void, Protoss is getting a lot of interesting new units, and a lot of new strategies are being developed to take full advantage of them. We’ve already covered some tips for Zerg players here at HearthStats, but no guide exists for the other races as far as we know. That’s not to say there aren’t some great Protoss guides out there, but there’s nothing quite like this one.
StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void is the latest installment of Blizzard’s premier real time strategy game series and is set 3 centuries after the events of the original StarCraft.
Starcraft II: Legacy of the Void is the latest addition to the popular Starcraft series. The game has been released to widespread acclaim, with the latest patch adding a multitude of features that have not been present in the original Starcraft I and Starcraft II.
It’s all about outwitting your opponent in StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void. Unlike other games, this one rewards intellect and strategy rather than sheer power. To that end, if you wish to enhance your Protoss game, you’ll want to use these suggestions.
Playing Protoss troops is all about timing, bringing in plenty of reinforcements, and wreaking havoc along the road. To that end, we’ve compiled a list of five helpful hints for all you Protoss gamers out there.
1. Attacking at the Right Time
If you’re playing as a Protoss, you should strike early or in the middle of the game. There are a variety of Protoss builds available, each with its own set of timings.
In general, though, you’ll want to penalize your opponent before they start using tier two technologies. You should have two bases for your army built around the 8:00-11:00 point of the game.
In the end, the time idea is to strike your opponent early. Check out the video below for an example of how to use this timing technique effectively.
2. Use Proxy Pylons to Your Advantage
Always carry a probe with you on attack runs if you decide to go on the offensive. This manner, you may utilize the probe to construct pylons wherever you think reinforcements will be needed.
Some players will develop the poor habit of just constructing one proxy pylon at a time. You will, however, want to have backup pylons on your side. Otherwise, when your opponent destroys your lone pylon, your aggressive operation would be cut short.
Build a flurry of proxy pylons to keep the reinforcement coming.
3. Oracles have the potential to cause serious havoc.
If you’re playing against a Terran, you’ll want to make use of your oracles. These clever troops have extremely strong pulsar lasers that may be utilized to annoy your opponent by murdering their many employees.
The first task is to locate your adversary’s mineral supply routes. Then you may use your oracles to assault their mineral lines. As you begin to stifle their mineral mining, this may quickly turn into a battle of attrition.
Better better, synchronize your oracle attacks so that you may assault several mineral lines at the same time. Your opponent will be able to properly react in this manner. A single oracle is often sufficient to cover an entire mineral line.
4. Hallucinations are a kind of bluff.
Though it is rather dangerous, the “Hallucinate” ability may be a fantastic method to boost a victory early on.
A sentry may use this ability to create the illusion of any unit. The phantom unit will have double the health but will be unable to inflict damage.
As a result, these phantom units may be used as a kind of bluff. If you drive a horde of colossi forward on the attack, for example, your opponent may be frightened and retreat. If you can pull this off, you’ll be able to score an early win for almost nothing.
Of course, in this scenario, the bulk of your colossi are phantom troops. If your opponent sees that your damage output isn’t up to par or that your units are tanking more than they should, your opponent may find out what you’re up to.
Your opponent, on the other hand, would have to employ a detector to filter out your phantom troops. The goal is to supply enough fictitious troops to make your force seem more menacing. However, you cannot deploy so many phantom troops that your opponent does not see anything is wrong.
5. Use a Dark Shrine if Things Aren’t Looking Good.
It’s inevitable that things will not always go your way. If you’re falling behind in a game, a Dark Shrine may help you catch up. It’s more powerful than you would think.
Once you’ve built a Dark Shrine, teleport Dark Templars in to assault your opponent’s most critical infrastructure. You may be able to swoop in and deliver a deadly surprise strike if your opponent doesn’t have a lot of detection.
If your troops are discovered, your opponent will almost certainly launch an easy counterattack if you are down in the game. However, if you’re on the verge of losing a game, this strategy may be a great “hail mary” move.
