The allegation was verified by The Record over the phone. Their internal servers were targeted in the assault. The credit goes to a group called RansomExx. Gigabyte is now looking into how they were able to get into the system, steal the data, and copy them.
Gigabyte did not provide the victims’ identities or the extent of the ransomware assault. However, thanks to the Record, who was able to get access to the specifics of the dark web assault. Many NDA papers relating to AMD, Intel, and American Megatrends were included in the data leak.
Acer was the victim of a similar attack earlier this year, when a gang of hackers known as REvil ransomware demanded $50 million from the company.
As the world becomes increasingly digitalized, the importance of cybersecurity grows. And, given the present state of affairs, where many employees work from home, it is a source of worry for the company.
